Welcome to Dr. Aditi's Fetal Medicine Centre

Fetal Neurosonogram

A precise neurosonography has more diagnostic impact than a standard transabdominal examination and is specifically helpful in evaluating complex abnormalities. Precise fetal neurosonography is beneficial for people with an increased risk of Central nervous system abnormalities, especially, in cases where essential examination detects unusual findings.

The fundamental of the neurosonogram of the fetal brain is the multiplanar procedure, which involves aligning the probe with the sutures and fontanelles of the fetal head. When the fetus’s head is down in the birth canal a transabdominal/ transvaginal method can be used. However when the fetus’s feet or buttocks are positioned to come first, then instead of a parallel position, the transducer is placed perpendicular to the abdomen. Spine analysis is also the evaluation of fetal nerusonogram examination.

The neurosonogram examination should include the same measurements that are usually obtained in basic examinations that involve head circumference, biparietal diameter, and the atrium of the lateral ventricles. However, there may be variations in specific measurements due to changes in gestational age.

Outcomes:
At the time of pregnancy during midgestation, if the transventricular plane and the transcerebelllar plane are in good condition, the head limits are within normal limits of gestational age, the atrial dimension is less than 10 mm, and the cisterna magna dimension range between 2-10 mm, many mental abnormalities are eliminated, the risk of a Central Nervous System(CNS) deformity is particularly low and further examinations are not needed.
