A comprehensive scan that examines the functioning of anatomy is called a second-trimester anomaly scan or Level-II scan. It is usually done to examine whether a baby is developing normally or not.
And if any abnormality is detected then the doctor will discuss it with you and will be recommended to have further tests be done if required.
Second Trimester Anamoly Scan Indication
Almost every fetus is normal. However, there might be some chances of delivering the baby with some abnormalities that would limit their mental and physical growth. And to avoid such abnormality fetal anomaly scan is done.
Second Trimester Female Anamoly Scan Procedure
The scanning will be appropriately viewed in a dark room with dim lights. And if your baby is active; then scanning requires a lot of concentration. As a result of which scanning is performed in a dark room.
For scanning, you will be asked to lie on the exam table. Following that, a gel will be applied to your bare abdomen. After applying the gel, the doctor will gently move the transducer from one end to the other with slight pressure. Usually, this scanning lasts for 30 -40 minutes, but sometimes you are asked to wait longer to make your baby move into an appropriate position.
During the examination, the doctor will point out your baby’s heart and other body parts.
Outcomes
Usually, serious problems are identified during the scan. Although it is not possible to detect every disease as they are detected only when the baby is delivered.
Also, the quality of scan pictures relies on many factors including fetal position and the mother’s weight.
At the time of scanning, your doctor will measure the following parts of your fetal’s body:
The measurements should match up with the anticipated date given for the delivery. Adding to this the doctor will examine fetal’s head, face, spine, stomach, kidneys, amniotic fluid, and more in detail
